Giovanni Greco was born in 1953
in Catania where today lives and works. He attended the School of Nude in
Catania. Thanks to his great passion for art he starded to paint in 1980.
Particularly he is attracted from the art of '500 and '600. This kind
of passion brings him to examine closely the technique of Caravaggio, Poussin
and most of all of Flemish Painters like Van Eyck, Brueghel, Bosch. At the
same time he experiences to satisfy his love for classicals studing the Hellenic
Art. He thinks that it is the perfection in the aesthetical side and in the
technical side.
Curator's Advice:
this painting is a right and observant
quote of great artists which are representative of important periods of ancient
and modern art. To follow the lesson of Masters of the past is useful to
understand and deepen the art's study.
That is what a lot of young artists
forget to do. They are empty of humility they need to learn so they are under
the illusion that they are born genius. So they neglect the hard work, the
study, the repetition necessary to get the skill. If they find the "right"
way they are also glorify with no merit and theirs works flood contemporary
art museums. These facts are the origin of a lot of misfortune for contemporary
art.
However I need to consider that
this seeding could be profitable only if the artist faces his own hand and
he pretends to forget the lesson he received. That is what every good collector
expects from his preferred artist.
The lexical construction of this
canvas is very good: a tribute to fine arts. |
