Richard Tian was born in Innbruck
in 1940. He has a strong belief in the duality of everything, and has his
whole life accordingly divided. A materialistic side with providing for food
and shelter and comfort, which led to work in the electronic field and a
family (mariage and one doughter), and a spiritual side seeking and questioning
and expressing one's thoughts, which led to extensive travels and art (writing
and painting). He exhibits manly in the USA.
Curator's Advice:
This is a quote of the famous painting
of Edouard Manet "le dejeuner sur l'herbe". Everything is the same but the
lean naked child replacing the buxom and naked girl of the original one.
It is clear the provocation that does not have anything to do with painting's
contents.
I have not much to say about the
painting because I would speak about another artist and not about Richard
Tian. I think that the core matter is only the subject replacing, particularly
the subject's sex.
If Manet bursted into neoclassic
painting with the new and liberating impressionist thought, Tian seems to
referr to the complete customes freedom so to the gender replacing. He is
looking what is in life nice and enjoyable. |
